Net followers increased to 347 (+2) this week for @Gugel.
— 7 followers were gained and 5 were lost.

The losses are expected since most of my original followers were gained when I was posting a lot about poker many years ago. I’m posting about product management and startups now so it’s natural for some people to drop off.

Learning 1
Even though the sample size it pretty low, the tweets where I @ someone or include a hashtag seem more effective. It’d be helpful to breakout the @ and # in a future analysis.

  1. Hashtag / @: No
    Pic: No
    Avg Impressions: 31 (3)
  2. Hashtag / @: Yes
    Pic: No
    Avg Impressions: 39 (3)
  3. Hashtag / @: Yes
    Pic: Yes
    Avg Impressions: 248(5)

Learning 2
Replies generate a ton more impressions than my personal tweets. Surprisingly, there’s no correlation (-0.02) between the numbers of followers the original poster had and the number of impressions my tweet generated.

Again, the sample size is very low and there are lots of cofounding factors (e.g. the timing of my replies), but it’s an interesting early observation.

Avg Impressions: 969 (4)
Here’s my top reply with 2,354 impressions:
